Why do I think so?  What makes it fantastic? This website provides various ways to slice and dice vacation information through out the Lake Erie region.  If you a couple wanting to find a get-away or a family wanting to make a local trip; this is by far the best place to shop.

The only section that I found hard to navigate was the travel planner section.  I feel this could be engineered a little bit better.

Overall, a great one-stop-shop place to find things to do on Lake Erie!

Modifications to nozzles with small cracks completed; plant to open in July

OAK HARBOR — Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station officials told the Nuclear Regulatory Commission during a public meeting recently in Port Clinton that modifications to the reactor head control rod drive mechanism nozzles are complete and the plant will be ready to return to safe and reliable operations in July.

Modifications of 24 of the 69 nozzles having small cracks were completed during the past two months using industry-proven methods, including robotic welding. The flaws were identified during a comprehensive inspection of the reactor head as part of a scheduled refueling outage that began Feb. 28.

Davis-Besse has been operating safely and reliably with an unused, replacement reactor head obtained from a canceled plant in Midland, Mich.

An extensive investigation by Davis-Besse plant engineers indicated that elevated reactor head temperatures accelerated the cracking of the nozzle material. This material is known industry-wide to be more susceptible to stress cracking. To slow future nozzle cracking, plant operators will lower the temperature of the reactor core by reconfiguring the fuel assemblies and shortening the next operating cycle.

During the planned 2012 outage, the nozzles will undergo more intensive inspections and testing. A new reactor head, with nozzles made of a different alloy that is less susceptible to cracking, will be installed in 2014.

“Our successful modifications, along with a revised operations plan to minimize stress cracking on these nozzles, will support the continued safe and reliable operation of the plant,” said Barry Allen, Davis-Besse site vice president.

Work activities scheduled to be completed before restart include: reassembly of the reactor head components, reload fuel assemblies and other restart readiness testing.

The NRC Special Inspection Team continues to monitor activities related to the nozzle modifications.

Never mind that the 352-foot-high Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial is closed all summer for repairs. The visitors center, filled with information about the War of 1812 and the Battle of Lake Erie, remains open. And special programming is scheduled throughout the summer. Newswise — As their classmates begin their summer vacations or prepare for their college commencement, nine Mount Holyoke students are instead learning about lanyards, square-riggers, and futtock shrouds as they sail across Lake Erie on the brig Niagara.

Their maritime adventure is a special two-week course, Rethinking the War of 1812, being taught by politics professor Christopher Pyle. The group embarked on their journey May 18; between now and May 31, they’ll help sail the Niagara – an authentic reproduction of the American warship that won the Battle of Lake Erie in September 1813 – from one end of Lake Erie to the other, visiting historical sites in both the United States and Canada. The course is being offered in conjunction with the Erie Maritime Museum.
